Training with GP Synergy
Training Pathways
GP Synergy offers both general and pathway training pathway places:
General Pathway: The general pathway is for registrars wishing to undertake their training in a combination of urban Sydney (RA 1) and outer metropolitan and/or rural (RA 2-5) locations.
GP Synergy is committed to providing registrars with flexibility and choice in their training plans, and ensuring this is balanced with a high quality, targeted learning experience to provide the grounding needed to embark on a successful General Practice career.
Achieving this involves exposure to a range of General Practice experiences across different clinical settings. Clinical presentations and patients range from practice to practice and from urban to rural settings. GP training is an excellent opportunity to be exposed to a range of clinical challenges, where registrars can learn and build their skills in a safe, supported environment.
GP Synergy general pathway registrars will experience a maximum 12 months training in a RA1 location, a minimum 6 months training in an outer metropolitan location and a minimum of 6 months training in a rural location.
Registrars can elect to undertake their rural rotation anywhere in Australia (pending other training provider availability) and at any stage of their GP term training post hospital term training. Registrars can also undertake their outer metropolitan rotation at any stage of GP term training (post hospital term training) and this must be within GP Synergy’s boundaries. Registrars can also elect to increase their rural time in lieu of an outer metropolitan placement.
GP Synergy will be offering general pathway 83 places in 2011, with 10 of these places available for 12 months outer metropolitan term training (in lieu of rural rotations). For more information, request a GP Synergy Applicant Pack by emailing Kate Froggatt on katef@gpsynergy.com.au
Rural Pathway - GP Synergy New England/Northwest: The rural pathway is for registrars wishing to undertake their training in rural areas. In a rural pathway, registrars applying to GP Synergy are required to complete a minimum of 18 months of their GP term training in GP Synergy’s new England/Northwest regional or rural locations (RA 2‐5 areas).
Rural pathway registrars are eligible for generous Government financial incentives. Overseas trained doctors affected by the 10 year moratorium are only eligible to apply for rural pathways.
Rural pathway registrars complete their training within the GP Synergy New England/Northwest region. Term allocation placements are made taking into account a number of factors including a registrars learning needs as well as personal factors.
GP Synergy offers its rural pathway registrars significant financial support as well as pastoral support with a dedicated Registrar Intake and Support Officer to assist registrars with relocation and ongoing support and assistance.
GP Synergy rural pathway registrars also benefit from a robust GP Synergy education program, with video-conferencing facilities in training practices for video conferencing workshops. Regular face to face workshops are also held in regional centres (such as Tamworth or Armidale) and Sydney. In preparation for the fellowship exam GP Synergy conducts pre-exam workshops and has a 99% fellowship exam pass rate.
GP Synergy will be offering 20 rural pathway training places within the GP Synergy New England/Northwest region in 2011.
