GP 3 Terms

Term 3

After their first twelve months of supervised General Practice (GP terms 1 & 2, also known as Basic and Advanced terms), GP Registrars are able to select a practice where they will work more independently, but still with some supervision. Now called GP Term 3, this term is also known as Subsequent GP Experience, or Mentor Time, or Mentorship.

This term is considered in 6 month (Full Time Equivalent) blocks, however there is a great deal of flexibility in how these terms can be undertaken. Registrars may elect to do one GP Term 3 (Subsequent term) and an extended skills term in a General Practice setting or one Subsequent term and one special interest training post . Registrars have the flexibility of choosing which practice they would like to train with, as long as the practice is accredited or successfully applies for and achieves accreditation prior to the commencement of the term.
