| Hospital Experience
- the first stage of training
The Australian General Practice Training program is a three
year program. The first of these years in spent in the hospital
system, generally as a continuation of the intern and resident
years. GP Registrars in their hospital terms are required
to apply for these terms through the usual individual hospital
application processes.
It is important to note that the cut off for hospital application
dates may precede the date of offer of a training place
with GP Synergy. It is important to ensure you have a hospital
position with which to commence your General Practice training
unless you intend to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning
(this is generally only if you are RMO 2 or above).
At GP Synergy we encourage our GP Registrars to undertake
hospital terms that will assist their General Practice career.
GP Registrars find it most useful when they have had a broad
range of hospital experience, particularly when they have
held positions of responsibility. The following hospital
terms (prior to commencing General Practice terms) are mandatory:
- General medicine or a rotation that offers broad medical
experience - such as geriatric medicine
- General surgery or a term that covers the principles of
basic surgical care
- Accident and Emergency
- Paediatrics
Terms
that meet peadiatric requirement
GP Registrars in their hospital term receive training advice
and support from the GP Synergy Medical educators and attend
workshops preparing them for General Practice.
