Information for Pre-Vocational Doctors

Committed to training highly skilled medical practitioners, GP Synergy was formed in 2009 as the result of a merger between GP training providers SIGPET and NEATS. From 1 January 2010, the training programs of GP Synergy and IGPE will be amalgamating. For more information about this amalgamation, click here.

People become GPs for a range of different reasons - some choose General Practice for the diversity in medical presentations and clinical challenge, whilst other are drawn to General Practice for the patient contact and ability to provide holistic, continuity of care.  Others enjoy the wide career opportunities available through General Practice and the opportunity to balance your workload with other interests. If you would like to know more about why some of our Registrars chose to become a GP, visit the Life as a GP page.

To become a GP you need to apply for the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) program.  This training program is a 3 or 4 years in duration (depending on which fellowship you aspire to obtain) and you can apply as early as your intern year.  If you would like more information on how to apply to GP Synergy, including answers to some frequently asked questions, click here.

Vanessa Siu

" At first I was a bit worried that being a GP would be lots of coughs and pap smears but in fact there is so much more interesting medicine to see and so many different people to meet, it really widens your perspective on life itself. I really enjoy the holistic patient care, flexibility and a chance to make a difference in people's everyday life. The support and training with GP Synergy* has been great during my training. The staff have always been friendly and approachable.
I have been impressed with the organisation, efficiency and relevancy of the education and training they provide and I really feel they have provided a broad foundation for my future."
