Rural Rotations

Due to Federal Government changes, registrars training in a general pathway are required to fulfill certain Return Of Service Obligations (ROSO), completing their training in a combination of metropolitan, outer metropolitan and/or rural terms.

As part of these requirements, GP Synergy registrars in general pathways are required to undertake a minimum 6 months in a rural (RA 2-5) location.

GP Synergy is committed to training registrars to become confident and competent independent Practitioners. Achieving this involves exposure to a range of General Practice experiences across different clinical settings. Clinical presentations and patients range from practice to practice and from urban to rural settings.

The rural rotation experience is an excellent professional development opportunity – enabling you to develop skills that you will use and rely on throughout your General Practice career.  Many registrars are surprised by the scope of support and assistance available and how the experience broadens their view not just on General Practice but life overall, forming strong relationships and bonds with rural health professionals and the local community.

GP Synergy offers a variety of rural rotation training places within its New England/Northwest region, providing registrars with a wide diversity of training experiences available ranging from placements similar to their current urban General Practice setting with little to none on-call or hospital work, to placements where registrars can enhance their procedural and clinical skills in a supervised setting and work closely with local specialists and other health professionals. To read more about Registrars experiences on rural rotations within the New England/Northwest area visit the Registrar Rural Rotation Recollections page.

As placements in the New England/Northwest region are highly sought after, Registrars are also able to elect to undertake their rural rotation in any RA 2-5 location in Australia (pending other RTP availability).
